I’m at the Women In The World Summit and I want you to be here too
My dear friend Komal Dadlani, founder of Lab4U, has invited me to the Women In The World Summit in New York this year.
The gathering has been happening for the past 9 years with an aim to presenting the world amazing female role models that we girls desperately need to know we can shoot higher in life.
BTW, it’s not that these women didn’t exist before, it’s that we didn’t speak about them.
In fact, we’ve not spoken about women issues until very recently. It’s great to see that after the Weinstein scandal we’re all slowly daring to say that we’ve suffered sexual abuse, that we’re given gendered roles way too early (kitchen toys, I’m watching ya), that our STEM aspirations are quickly deflated within our environment — or any other aspirations considered manly — , that we’re paid less, shut up in meetings or given a choice between motherhood and success. And if this wasn’t enough, it is is our fault anyways because we ‘lack the confidence’ to ‘go own it’.
Anyways, I’m not going to go deep into this, at least for now.
Today I just want to say that I’m very excited to be in the Women In The World Summit for two reasons:
One, because it gives me the opportunity to meet rockstars using every second of their existence to make their ideas REAL.
I’m talking about people like Jaquelyn Birdsall, Senior Engineer in Toyota, Maxeme Tuchman, Caribu CEO or Komal Ahma, Founder and CEO at Copia.
These women are a source of inspiration because they don’t give a damn about how insurmountable may seem the challenges they’ve got in front of them, whether these arise from the normal entrepreneurship cycle, or just because they have a vagina instead of a penis.
Yes, you heard it.
Second, because being here, having a phone and many questions in my head allows me to share with you the insights I’m getting from speaking with these amazing women.
I think we both have much to learn from them, so I’ll give my best to bring you some of their stories.

Estoy en el Women In the World Summit y quiero que también estés
Tengo la fortuna de que mi querida amiga Komal Dadlani, co-fundadora de Lab4U, me ha invitado este año a acompañarla al Women In The World Summit en Nueva York.
Este encuentro lleva celebrándose 9 años con el objetivo de presentar al mundo esos ‘role models’ femeninos que tanto necesitamos las mujeres para saber que podemos aspirar a más.
Y no es que estas mujeres chingonas no existieran antes, es que no se hablaba de ellas.
En general, no se ha hablado mucho de las mujeres hasta hace unos años, cuando hemos empezado a decir en voz alta que la mayoría sufrimos abusos sexuales, que nos encasquetan roles de genero desde la más tierna infancia (juegos de cocinitas, os veo), que nos sacan de las carreras científicas desde bien pequeñas, que nos pagan menos, que nos acallan en reuniones, que nos hacen elegir entre maternidad o carrera y que encima es nuestra culpa si no tenemos confianza en nosotras mismas.
En fin, no voy a meterme mucho en el tema, al menos de momento.
Hoy solo quiero escribir que estoy muy emocionada de estar en el Women In The World Summit por dos motivos:
Uno, por la oportunidad de conocer a auténticas rockstars que utilizan cada segundo de su existencia para sacar adelante sus proyectos.
Estoy hablando de personas como Jaquelyn Bisall, Ingeniera Senior en Toyota, Maxeme Tuchman, CEO de Caribu o Komal Ahma, Fundadora y CEO de Copia.
Estas mujeres son una autentica inspiración porque ‘les vale madre’ lo imposible que parezca el reto que tienen por delante, ya sea propio de las dificultades de emprender, liderar, innovar o dirigir o derivado del simple hecho de tener una vagina y no un pene.

Dos, porque estar aquí, tener un movil y muchas preguntas en la cabeza me permite contarte a ti lo que esta pasando. Creo que ambos podemos aprender mucho de estas mujeres así que daré mi mejor esfuerzo para traerte esas historias que veo que puedan ser interesantes para todos.
